I made this body of work live on stage with various musicians. I've performed at large festivals with hundreds of people and dark, secluded jazz clubs with only a handful of patrons. Most of the drawings are made in a 20 to 45 minute time span. Sometimes I'll make five drawings in a show, other times, only one. I don't plan what I'm going to draw, instead I respond to the moment, improvising with the music, and expressing the energy of a show.
There is a synergy that happens between the musicians, the audience and myself, which I can't quite describe. It is a far different process of creating work than when I'm in the studio, locked away, scrutinizing the smallest mark. This art is raw, reactionary and a bit wild. Over the years I have produced hundreds of pieces, these are some of my favorites.
